In 1936 Monique Carton, nicknamed Madame Moune, opened a cabaret exclusively reserved for women and a few handpicked men. Its black facade with gold edging hides nearly 80 years of memories and myth. The establishment was the very first of its kind in Europe because there was no storefront establishment dedicated to women and their homosexual pleasures. From the 1970s, Chez Moune began to lose its identity and its regulars. Today, it has no more lesbian than history and is content to be a trendy place among others, but this “women’s cabaret” is one of those Parisian nightlife institutions that have profoundly changed the face of Pigalle and advanced the history of female homosexuality. 📍54 rue Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, 75009 #throwbackthursday #pigalle #chezmoune #chasing_facades #facadelovers #storefront #howtobeparisian #thefrancophiles #emilyinparis #thisisparis #myparis #mylittleparis #vivreparis #doitinparis #parisjetaime #parisparis #pariscartepostale #parisarchitecture #pariscityvision #parisestmagique #parisfrance #parisgram #parisismoveablefeast #parismaville #parisobviously #parissecret #paristourisme #parisvibes #pariszigzag #parisianfacades
