For the @rcgdisglobal campaign, Ermenegildo Zegna Couture created a unique tuxedo that was easy on the eyes and the earth. Worn by actor and musician @lakeithstanfield3 (Get Out; The Harder They Fall) at the Academy Awards®, the navy-blue suit was made from tussah silk, which is typically gathered from the cocoons of wild silk moths found in southern Asia. Rather than growing, harvesting, and spinning the thread using mechanical means, it is typically done by hand. This leads to welcome irregularities in the yarn which gives the fabric it produces a rich, natural texture without losing any of its elegance. Stanfield and Zegna’s efforts were a welcome addition to RCGD Global’s TM campaign to raise awareness about sustainable fashion by putting it on display at the Academy Awards®. In the past decade, wearing ethical, eco-friendly formal wear at the Oscars has gone from practically nonexistent to well-supported, with many top designers and top artists joining in. You can join the cause, too, just by supporting brands that are committed to a better planet.
