Resolute. Sunset to Sunrise - Warrumbungles _ Been a while since I've posted a sunset to sunrise! Since I first visited this place, I've wanted to shoot star trails. I've seen an epic moonrise, a terrifying storm, epic sunset hues and now on the 5th trip some clear proper dark skies. Right in the middle of summer. 30+ degrees with a clear sky forecast I made the hike up. It was a tad windy but not enough to make me think much of it. I arrived 2hrs before sunset. With plenty of time, a plan, warm weather and enough food I was confident. It's funny how it's when you start to get cocky, the universe hands you some challenge. Just after sunset I started to get dehydration headache. I drank plenty of water (too much I ran out early in the night) but I didn't replace the electrolytes that I also lost through sweating on the hike up. With the headache slowly getting worse, so did the wind. This area is very exposed and any wind gets funnelled through and is exaggerated. The wind got up to gusts powerful enough to easily knock me off balance and it was relentless. All. Night. Long. Non stop. That night was by far the most uncomfortable I've been. Anyways as you can see here the shoot worked out (thank f*ck). - Sun light on the right taken at sunset. - Diffused light on the right side of foreground and right horizon glow taken during blue hour after sunset - 490 shots taken on a second camera for the star trails - Left horizon glow and diffused light on the left side of foreground taken during blue hour before sunrise - Sun light on the left taken at sunrise - Star trails circle was lowered slightly for a better composition.
