This painting will be in Wonder Women curated by @_kathyhuang_ at Deitch LA *this Saturday* The figures on the left and right are both aspects of myself, one in the form of Mahasona Yakka (great graveyard demon) is acting as a teacher, requiring the death of old ideas in order to return to even older forgotten truths. The egg evokes a kind of rebirth that can happen many times within one life, and the chicken who at times has been used as an offering in Sri Lankan Thovil (exorcism) rituals is set free. The trash hints that this is happening against the backdrop of a society that has confused its priorities. We are not in a fantasy world but a familiar one.
