There’s an understandable aversion towards rodeo when thinking of the animals’ welfare. In the early west, American Indian, Latino, African American and White cowboys/girls shared their knowledge of horses and cattle with one another and eventually began showing off these skills between animal and rider, creating the first rodeos. As this pasttime grew and white male cowboys broke away to form their own traveling rodeo, more pressure was put on the animals to perform. This encouraged subculture rodeos to form with more inclusiveness and a focus on care towards the animals. The Gay Rodeo is one example of a subculture rodeo encouraging these policies, which ensures no animal is hurt or abused, at any time, in any way, by anyone.
