A morning walk ... Waking up before dawn I go through the usual routine; coffee, meditation, contemplation of the day ahead, trying to be focused on each task without the distraction of popups and notifications. As always it's a constant battle with my easily distracted mind, trying to stay in a single state is not natural to me. I grab my camera and set out for an early stroll through the nearby fields and pockets of forest. .... From the edge of the village it's a nice transition to farmland and quiet. Even at this early hour there's still the steady drone of fast traffic on the A40 not far away. It's a strange feeling to have change my routine so much; from perpetual travel to a somewhat static existence. It's a temporary solution for I won't stay here for long, but I'm grateful for it nonetheless. .... I'm hoping for animal encounters, trying to figure out their habits, where they come to break their fasts, where the light might be best to see them in. The deer I come across is just stood there, staring at me as I round a corner, clumsy human steps announcing my presence from miles away. It runs away once I'm fully visible, so I carry on to the next field, but return after a few minutes to see if it's relaxed now. .... The rising mist across the field is always such a spectacular sight to me, regardless of how many beautiful views I've seen, majestic mountains I've gawped at, still, the simple yet complex vista of mist and foliage fills me with wonder. ... The deer are further away now, but more interested in the rich pickings from the stubble than me, so I make my way towards them, stopping whenever they turn round, but quickly get close enough for some nice pictures. They disappear behind a hedge into the next field so I rush forward, trying to stay quiet while moving forward. I'm no hunter or stalker, no experienced tracker of animals, but I've got the evolution of millennia in my genes, so I muddle through. .... And then they're there, not 20m away, close enough to fire an arrow, throw a spear, or fire off multiple shutter releases, capturing the moment in glorious detail, content in a successful Hunt, happy to go home with my trophy.
