Today September 15 marks exactly 5 years since my one woman show #howtosucceedasanethnicallyambiguousactor as run at my artistic home the @thecastillotheatre . How to succeed began in 1999 as a monologue called EXOTIC OBSERVATIONS . I referenced a few posts earlier about being sick in bed. Along with collage, crosswords , sketching the other thing I started doing was writing. When your whole life falls apart you tend to think about what went before and so I began writing the stories about my history. Friends always encouraged me to stand up and tell these stories I had always been the raconteur and storyteller at parties etc. so a few years after that , a little better I literally stood up in a friends living room and told the stories to about 10 people. I titled the monologue exotic observations because until that time every single casting Director agent manager producer used to say “you’re so exotic with your dark hair and dark eyes “ [of course they were looking directly at my breast when they said that but that’s a different story ] that was the germ of how to succeed . over the years i on and off I did it in different venues in New York City. In 2015 I met @pita625 arpita and her theatre company @hypokritnyc . we started taking it towards a one-way show.
