Manta rays are important components of the marine ecosystem, but are also gentle and charismatic creatures. Just as species of proven intelligence like whales and dolphins, they often jump out of the water usually to eliminate parasites from their skin or to communicate or play. Mantas usually enter lagoons to consume plankton in the area.
