I have been recording soundscapes since I was a child. A soundscape is a blend of controlled or uncontrolled sounds from an environment. When @nomadicdivision asked me to create a playlist for their new soundscape series, I immediately thought about spaces and artists that shaped my practice as a songwriter and interdisciplinary artist. The aesthetic of the playlist embodies the feeling of being in motion. Like turning corners at the center of a swap meet where brutalist architecture, bouncy ringtones, jewelers molding gold down into hearts, the low whisper of jazz pouring out of booth 20, blends together. The playlist includes songs across many genres and provides a snapshot of artists who inspired my EP Vortex and aesthetic today.
