CNF - finally broke 90m barrier. . In my first year of depth freediving, 2009 I achieved 70m CNF during the Triple Depth competition. Year after I did 80m during training. In 2013 I set NR at 83m and failed 86m. In 2017 I got to 89m at training but failed two competition attempts of 90m due to early turns. . 90m was my dream for many years and finally this year I went back to the Bahamas and I broke through it. First day of @vertical_blue and I have attempted 92m. I haven't competed in depth since 2019 so I think the stress got to me a bit and I ended dive a bit hypoxic. I completed surface protocol 0.7s too late. According to CMAS rules it would be a white card. . I was a bit disappointed but CNF was not my focus in Vertical Blue. I did just 5 training sessions in this discipline and haven’t got time to optimize little details. During the 4th day all I wanted was a white card and validate 90m officially as I had unfinished business with this depth since 2017. I completed the dive comfortably and you can see a video of it on my YT channel (link in BIO). I realized it was a mistake to attempt the hardest discipline and PB on the most stressful 1st day. . However, from diveye I did see a few mistakes and I took a different approach. It’s amazing how video recording yourself can work as feedback, help us spot some mistakes and improve it quickly. @diveye is such a game changer for our sport! . Looking at the past, after initial quick improvement to 80m in 2010, in the last 12 years I have improved ‘only’ 10-12m but there is a huge efficiency gap between 80m and 90m. Each meter comes very hard but I shifted my focus towards depth in the last couple of years. I can see how CNF is completely different from DNF and I have to forget some pool habits and train differently for it. I’m curious to see what the future will bring. .
