Working on my master's thesis with baby. It's on the ability of antioxidants to enhance SPF through photoprotecting, photostabilizing, and anti-erythema properties. Some antioxidants have the potential to boost in vivo SPF values by absorbing UVB and UVA-II wavelengths, reducing photodegredation of sunscreen filters, and reducing the skin's erythemic response to UV radiation. That last one I find the most interesting. Any ingredient that can reduce skin redness after photoirradiation can theoretically boost a products SPF value since in vivo SPF testing is based on minimal erythema dose. That means antioxidants can improve SPF via functional and biological means. #sunscreen #cosmeticchemist #cosmetichemistry
