Having the opportunity to write is a dream I never imagined could be possible. I am so proud of our work at Everyone’s Invited and it is the privilege of a lifetime to continue amplifying these stories. Writing this book has been the hardest, but most rewarding and fulfilling journey -the ultimate challenge and learning curve- where I’ve been forced to confront my own experiences, past behaviour, values and beliefs. It’s been painful, heartbreaking, joyous and moving all together and all at once. I wanted to write something that would challenge your point of view. I wanted to write something affirming and cathartic. I wanted to write something that everyone has a stake in, with the lives and experiences described reflecting directly back onto yours and the people in your lives. The product is a collection of essays that examine how and why a harmful culture thrives, from porn to the patriarchy, social media to gender scripts. It’s about how we as a society on both individual and collective levels are all apart of a system that enables inequality to endure and flourish. I am grateful and indebted to so many who have painstakingly worked with me to make this a reality. Every survivor who shared their story, every volunteer, my incredible editors and team at S&S, my wonder agents at WME. This book has also helped me heal. I hope it will do the same for you.
