🚨 Good news alert! 🚨 The New Museum is proud to announce that we'll be presenting "Judy Chicago: Herstory," (@judy.chicago) occupying three floors of the Museum, from October 12, 2023 to January 14, 2024. The first comprehensive New York museum survey of Chicago's work, "Herstory" will span the artist's sixty-year career and encompass the breadth of her contributions across painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, textiles, photography, stained glass, needlepoint, and printmaking.
Following our upcoming exhibition, "Wangechi Mutu: Intertwined" (opening March 2), our summer shows will spotlight the work of Pepón Osorio, Tuan Andrew Nguyen, Mire Lee, and Wynnie Mynerva from June 29—September 17, 2023.
"Pepón Osorio: My Beating Heart/ Mi corazón latiente"
Inspired by his background in theater and performance, as well as grounded in his experiences as a child services case worker, the richly textured sculptures and installations of #PeponOsorio are deeply invested in political, social, and cultural issues affecting Latinx and working class communities in the United States.
Tuan Andrew Nguyen's (@tuan.andrew.nguyen) first United States solo museum exhibition will showcase a new film and two recent video projects alongside works from his sculptural and object-based practice. Developing projects through collaborative community engagement and extensive archival research, Nguyen utilizes strategies of remembrance to highlight underexamined and suppressed histories.
#MireLee creates animatronic sculptures, composed of materials including low-tech motors, pumping systems, and PVC hoses, operate both like living organisms and biological machines.
Wynnie Mynerva (@wynniemynerva_) will debut a newly commissioned body of work in their first solo museum exhibition in the United States. Mynerva’s installation in the New Museum’s Lobby Gallery will assert radical mythologies capable of inspiring gender exploration and sexual liberation.
