Revealed today: A peek at the shining spiral stairs in our spectacular new underground gallery space, and our upcoming program of exhibitions, collection displays and art commissions. The opening program, featuring works by more than 900 Australian and international artists, will be free to visitors when our transformed art museum opens on 3 December. Just to name a few – you'll find epic sculptures by international artist Adrián Villar Rojas installed in this vast underground former WWII fuel tank, large-scale narrbong-galang (many bags) by Waradgerie artist Lorraine Connelly-Northey and an exuberant floral sculpture by Yayoi Kusama. Proposing the world seen from Sydney, our opening program contributes to important global conversations and when you visit, you'll encounter works across the campus that engage, inspire, provoke and delight. Bold and compelling new site-specific commissions by Francis Upritchard, Jonathan Jones, Lisa Reihana, Richard Lewer and Lee Mingwei will be on display both inside and outside the new building, and recent acquisitions and commissions by artists will be on display for the first time, including works by Khadim Ali, Karla Dickens, Jeffrey Gibson, Simryn Gill, Samara Golden, Barkley L Hendricks, Kimsooja, Simone Leigh, Sanné Mestrom, Elizabeth Pulie, Shireen Taweel, Howie Tsui and Justene Williams. Over the coming weeks, we'll be bringing you more sneak peeks from the new building, showing you extraordinary artworks coming to life, and sharing how you can be part of our opening celebrations. To make sure you stay in the loop, go to our profile and click the little bell at the top of the page – you'll be notified when we post, and won't miss out! __ Image: The Tank space in the new building at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, photo © AGNSW, Jenni Carter Upcoming installation by Adrián Villar Rojas is proudly supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW @sydney #ILoveSydney #FeelNewSydney
