#ENDSTRIPSEARCH Strip search is state sanctioned sexual assault and should not be legal. What happened to #ChildQ was harrowing. Police often break the law and violate children’s rights. Children deserve safety, protection and childhood free from criminalisation, harm and state violence. Right now it is LAWFUL for children to be strip searched by the police. IT SHOULD NOT BE. A recent disclosure by the Met Police in a Freedom of Information request reveals the scale of strip search - more than 9000 children impacted over the last 5 years. 35 CHILDREN WERE UNDER THE AGE OF 12!!!! It also highlights how many members of the Black community of all ages have been impacted. More than 60% of @4FrontProject members have been strip searched more than once. The trauma, shame, humiliation and long term impacts on children and young peoples mental health needs to be addressed. We need to mobilise in so many ways. To protect Black girlhood specifically. To protect Black childhood and fight against adultification and denial of victimhood (and the support an acknowledgement of victimhood provides). To get police out of schools. And to end state sanctioned sexual assault #EndStripSearch 📢
