mental health is serious. It needs to be taken seriously at all costs. We are constantly in shock and sad and in a place of “I wish I knew”, “I wish they would have said something” ... but when people are here struggling they’re shamed, they’re ridiculed, they’re name called, they’re brushed off because “it could be worse” or “being dramatic”. As a society we need to step up. We need to start listening and allowing for the space to be open to talk about our struggles. We need to listen when we ask someone how they are and we need to follow up, we need to check in. We need to do the things we “wish we would have” after the fact. Mental health doesn’t discriminate. It’s here. It’s real. It impacts everyone. This is so close to home as someone who’s been suicidal, deals with mental health struggles and daily life struggles. As someone who’s also lost friends to suicide, we want you here. You’re loved. You’re valued. We’re here. I am here. My inbox is always open. You’re seen and your feelings are valid. I’ve been in a state countless times of not wanting to live but also not wanting to die. I just didn’t want to live with the pain. I’m still healing. Everyday is a journey. Some better and worse than others. But it’s the pain we want to go away. Not life. So let’s stand together and remember that even if, like tWitch, people seem happy on the outside, to check in with them. Let them talk about their pain, let them feel heard, help them get help.
