Just getting it in under the wire, but happy national cancer survivors' day! It's a thing! I've intentionally kept my cancer trip out of my feed since I came on this god awful app. I figured I was better and no one wanted to hear about it. But it’s part of me and it made me who I am, so the time has come. Here it is: In 2006 & some of 2007, I went through chemo and radiation for Ewing's sarcoma, a nasty pediatric tumor that sometimes shows up in adults. It's usually in the long bones, but I got it in the soft tissue of my sinus - your guess is as good as mine as to why. That’s me with my old pal, Stanley the stand, walking the grounds of City of Hope and undoubtedly pissing off my nurses. And that’s me and @officialevercarradine right at the end of treatment. I found out I was sick three months after we got hitched. It was an awful year + for both of us and a tough way to spend the first year of our life together, but she was amazing and I’m happy to spend the rest of our days together making it up to her. I was stuck as hell before I got sick, musically and otherwise, but I didn't know it. Slowly, over the course of it all, songs and life started flowing back to me and it was like becoming someone else. When it was all over, I spent the next several months writing a record about it called Stars & Curses. I didn't mean to write about cancer, but as Joe Strummer said, "No input, no output", and it was all the input I had. I made it with Will Golden aka @thechaletstudio at the old Studio 9 here in LA and released it in 2008. It was the first record that felt right coming out and I’m grateful to Will, @alchemikalartz and @bryancookmixer for that, but also to everyone who played on it- @scottlorenzini @philipofthedeep @alsgro and @oliverkrausmusic to name a few. Cancer’s an asshole that hits us all in one way or another eventually, so I’m going to go through Stars & Curses track by track on here cuz it’s what I can do. I hope you dig it.
