I DON’T TRAVEL FOR THE GRAM. I TRAVEL TO LEARN. When people think about Cambodia, they imagine the grand and ancient temple of Angkor Wat. Tourists from all over the world are drawn to come here because of its French colonialist influence, and as a known tropical destination that became the chosen setting of @angelinajolie when she came to film Tomb Raider. But truthfully, there is so much more to this! And that is what iconic figures like Ms Jolie and Princess Diana sought to show the international community. Yesterday, we went to the Cambodian Landmine Museum and what was there showed this nation’s long struggle against the dark forces that tainted its history. Up to this day, Cambodian nationals are still struggling with the millions of landmines and bombs that are buried and tucked away deep in the recesses of its jungles. Six million landmines every day have maimed and destroyed people’s lives, and it’s all because of war. WAR ravaged Cambodia, from the onslaught of the Vietnam War to the destructive regime of Pol Pot’s notorious Khmer Rouge. And in doing so, it left an indelible mark that these people deal with and it’s something that us from the outside world don’t ever think about. While my realm of work revolves around fashion, glamour and lifestyle. It doesn’t mean that the stuff I post is just about that. As a journalist, my role is about raising awareness for eye-opening issues that need attention and to educate those that want to help.
