There is a version of me who I really like. She’s 14 years old, just starting to step into a creator’s mindset and executing on her ideas for the first time. Curious and wide-eyed. Writing & releasing her first songs - not to become “famous”, but more as an experiment - just to see if she could. Styling herself and directing her mom on how to photograph her for said single covers (thanks mom) to create the visuals she envisioned - and even figuring out how to build her first website (remember this was 16 years ago, so it wasn’t nearly as easy as it is now lol). Having a “presence” on social media wasn’t a thing yet. Nothing mattered - but everything mattered because it was all new and fun and exciting and fulfilling. It’s funny how into my 20’s, I still found myself doing a version of these things - but the feeling changed, the pressures changed, and my own expectations changed. I put so much weight on it all - and instead of just creating to create, I was creating to *succeed*. Which is a mindset that I’ve realized now in my 30’s doesn’t serve me at all (& do not recommend). My goal this year is to feel more like that 14 year old. Wide-eyed & curious with no reservations of “should’s” or “shouldn’t’s”.
