November 22, 2025. Remembering the Assassination of JFK. November 22, 2025, Remembering the Assassination of JFK. On this day in 1963 in Dallas Texas, JFK was assassinated. I can still remember where I was when I got the news and the feeling of shock that I experienced when I heard it. At the time I was in the Navy, and in the days following, I went to Washington, DC and observed the procession from the White House to the Capitol building bringing JFK’s body there to lie in state. I remember standing in the crowd to watch the procession go by and was amazed that the mass of humanity that observed it stood in absolute silence. At the time most of the radio stations simply played classical music of a mournful nature. Oddly enough the death of JFK set the stage for President Lyndon Johnson to engage with Congress to pass sweeping civil rights legislation in 1964 as well as the Voting Rights act of 1965 that enfranchised many people who had previously been denied the right to vote. That legislation probably has influenced our society much more than any of us could’ve imagined. So as we pause and reflect on the shocking and sad event that happened in Dallas 62 years ago, let us also remember the positive effect that it had on our country that seemed unimaginable at the time of JFK’s death.
