Dear Evan Hansen closes today on Broadway. I remember watching Seth Myers’s one evening and he introduced a number called Waving Through A Window from a new musical called Dear Even Hansen. As I sat in my living room absolutely glued to my TV I witnessed @bensplatt and @hotdamnitslaura perform that number for the first time. I knew DEH was going to be special. I just knew it. Then that February when visiting home in Vegas the soundtrack became available. I remember sitting in my dads SUV listening to it from top to bottom taking in every single note. I was right, it was special. When I heard that Ben Platt was leaving the Broadway show I made a special trip to NYC to make sure I’d get to see him and catch him on his closing weekend. It was the absolute single most transformative performance I had seen on a stage up to that point. It was special. Though I’d like to say it was just Ben, it wasn’t. It was the whole show. I’ve seen it since on Broadway and on tour multiple times and every time I see it I’m always changed for the better. Friends, this show really is special. It’s so rare to take in a masterpiece but especially one that is created in our own lifetime. @benjpasek and @justinpaulmusic did just that. They created a masterpiece and we are so damn blessed to live in the time period to take it in in real time. My friend @thejessicaphillips is in the closing cast today. She plays the role of Evan’s mother with a grit and emotional transparency that very few are capable of mustering up 8 shows a week. She’s perfection. We my friends are the lucky ones. If you have been able to see this show on Broadway at any time since it has opened may we always take in the significance of being a part of this show. May we always understand that we really are the lucky ones. Broadway and The Music Box Theater will never be the same after today. I just knew it was special and it really is. Tonight in Nashville I get to see Ben Platt in concert on his solo tour. I’m just gonna chalk tonight up as well needed therapy for this DEH loving heart. Thank you @dearevanhansen Broadway.
