In 2011, my sisters and I produced a documentary on a children’s home in Kenya for kids who lost their mothers to death or the prison system and for the mother’s rebuilding their lives after release from prison. Connecting with these kids cracked my heart wide open. So much of their story felt like mine… being separated from your mom too young, learning how to survive before you’re ready, still choosing love anyway. They were full of hope, gratitude, and this wild light that trauma couldn’t touch. It made me realize… healing doesn’t come from having a perfect past. It comes from choosing softness, connection, and joy anyway. ✨
