It has been 1,127 days since we last held an in person @ukblackpride event and WOW it was great to be back outside!! The community really showed up and OUT as we all made history together on Sunday 14th August and proudly announced that we are now ‘The Largest Black Pride Celebration’ in the WORLD with over 25,000 people in attendance!!! Our theme this year was POWER and I’m still trying to process just how powerful the day was, the queer joy I’ve bottled that will sustain me for the days, weeks and months to come and everything the day presented. UK Black Pride is made up of volunteers who work all year round, volunteer their time, their skills, their passion and their pride for the Black LGBTQIA+ community. I am so PROUD to be a part of this organisation, I am grateful for the home it has provided me, the ways it has enriched my life for the better and the chosen family I stand alongside. Most of all I want to shout my love, respect, and admiration to our Co-Founder & Executive Director @ladyphyll For 17+ years and the many more to come you have poured yourself into this organisation, into it’s people and into community around the globe. You champion all of us, at our best, at our worst, when we are deserving and even when others wouldn’t standby and I see sometimes closer than most the weight your shoulders carry as our giant in this movement. You always talk about acknowledging our people where it is due and giving people their flowers whilst they are still here, today in this moment I want to shower you in fields of flowers because many of us would not be who we are without you. I know you hate this stuff but you can tell me off later! It might take a team but without you we are nothing, without your direction, perseverance, endless love and strength in the face of continued adversities we would not be the chorus of voices you heard screaming back at you times 25,000 and louder in strength and unity around the globe.
