Photos by @kiliiiyuyan // The Pacific Northwest is known for being wet, but up on Mount Baker, all that precipitation comes down as snow instead. In fact, Mount Baker holds the record for the most snowfall over a single winter season. Over time, that snow packs down into glacial ice. On our Mount Baker adventure, chef Melissa King and I took my handcrafted, traditional kayaks to Upper Bagley Lake and trekked about in the snow to forage for berries and other flavors of the alpine tundra. Mount Baker has many different ecosystems from bottom to top, including lush forests and alpine meadows filled with wildflowers. It’s a terrific journey to follow the Nooksack River all the way up to the snow, where it all starts. The mountain has several names in the Salish family of languages.
