Tesseract V Room mics, now we’re talking! It was a pretty classic Middle Farm setup. The main setup was a pair of Coles 4038’s in blumlein configuration, waist height in the centre of the room. These ran into the Trident pre’s with a pinch of air added and a broad cut around 4k to soften cymbal harshness. They were then patched into Acle’s API 2500 compressor for a bit of classic Tesseract squish. For an alternate voicing I placed a pair of 414’s in omni on the floor up against the back wall. I initially ran these into a Manley Vari-MU compressor, but this was too polite so I patched in a secret weapon, a 70’s DBX 118 hi fi compressor designed for controlling levels when recording LP’s to cassette! This added just the right amount of gooey squish!
