✨Sappy post alert!✨
It’s been almost 6 months since I was badly burned in a fire accident. There is no other way to describe what happened, other than it was truly a freak accident. I suffered 2nd-deep and 3rd-degree burns all over my body. To this day, it is difficult to talk about the incident without getting overly emotional, so I will keep it as short as possible.
I am so deeply touched by the support from my family, friends, and the staff at Parkland’s Burn Unit for sticking with me and aiding me in my recovery. Preston and my family were with me at the hospital day and night, keeping me in a positive mindset and taking care of me when I couldn’t move. There were so many unknowns and uncertainties; we didn’t know how I would heal or the long-term impact. The only thing we knew was that it was going to be a long journey to full recovery.
During this time, I began the process of auditioning for Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and found out that I made it to Finals. The Parkland staff did everything they could to help me regain my mobility. It was a team effort to get to a point in the healing process where dancing wouldn’t have negatively impacted my recovery. I was medically cleared to continue auditioning 4 days before Finals. I am so grateful to the members of the DCC organization for being so kind and understanding. Their love and support for me was humbling, and I cannot be more thankful! For Finals I wrapped my legs, drew on some eyebrows, and was ecstatic to dance again.
Looking back at where I was six months ago and where I am now, it feels so surreal. The human body is amazing! It is so easy to give up, feel hopeless, and even angry at times. I went through all of those emotions and battled to not let them take over. I tried my best to push through the pain and remember that this is not the end. We all have so much more to live for, no matter the physical or emotional scarring! More than anything, this reaffirmed for me that despite adversity, we can achieve anything we set our minds to!
I will forever be grateful for all of your love and support! 🥰
