🏳️‍⚧️Long Live Queer Spaces🏳️‍⚧️ Always and forever. This has been one of the chants/phrases used during our campaign at @friendsjoinersarms in the last few years... So thought I had it stamped on my chest. Latex commissioned @aimlessgallery. So many of us have memories of our first kisses, dances, love, exploration of identity, new friendships, finding community, in queer spaces... I personally didn't really experience what a QUEER space was till I moved to London ca. 2013 (and no, I'm not talking about a gay bar, or the classic one small lesbian bar you find in each city...). Queer spaces are sanctuaries. They're not just “cool parties“ or the trendy rave, they’re home for many of us. They’re a place where we can feel safer and connected, where you can find people who look like you, like me... A place where people compliment your outfit, find you hot, wanna chat to you about many things other than your gender... A place where you're not the freak, the outcast, the other... Queer spaces saved me. I don't know who I'd be right now or what my life would look like if I wouldn't have left Madrid that summer of 2013. Queer spaces, and especially trans spaces in London, opened up that door for me that led to a whole new world where anything is possible... These spaces must be protected at all costs. There’s a reason why they exist! I'm so grateful for all the friends and people I've met in many of these basements in the last few years. Soon we'll be opening our own community-run new accessible queer venue in East London! Can you believe it? It still feels like a dream, but we did that, people!
