@irelandsgrub called into📍Zaatar and this is what he had to say: Last week I had the pleasure of being invited down to try out another new middle eastern food spot opened up in @georgesstreetarcade @zaatardublin2 Zaatar has 2 meanings in Arabic: fresh thyme, or a spice mixture containing dried thyme, sumac and sesame seeds. What's on offer is called manakeesh, Middle-Eastern flatbread typically eaten for breakfast. This is the first of its kind in Dublin, manakeesh are a pillar of Middle-Eastern and Levantine cuisine. The zaatar and sumac are sourced straight from Palestine and Jordan, in order to provide the most authentic taste to their spice mix. The cheese blend is made up of a mixture of Cypriot halloumi, Italian Fior di Latte and Palestinian Akkawi cheese, and are cooked in a 500° woodfire oven. I went for the classic Zaatar & Cheese , this was like an incredibly well flavoured garlic cheese pizza, I could smell the herbs well before it came near the table. The second I was given was a Lahm bi Ajeen, which was insanely tasty, seasoned lamb mince on flat bread and topped with pomegranate seeds. I was also advised to dribble some pomegranate molasses on this for added flavour , which I'm glad I did To drink I asked if they had anything traditional and was given a bottle of Aryan , which is an in house made yoghurt drink . This was quite bitter and distinctive . Maybe not the best most ideal for washing down pizza but I wanted to experience as much traditional ingredients as I could.
