Working on mobility yesterday. Here are some of my thoughts on that topic. Mobility work does not equal stretching and vice versa. There is a huge misconception on this. Mobility, or as I like to say your joints’ ranges of motion is important. Flexibility is not. You want enough flexibility in your soft tissue to move through FULL ranges of motion under load. After this point, we want tightness as it allows us the potential to produce more force. Which at the end of the day force production is king. Here is the only drill I do for hip mobility. Loaded deep squats. Great for hip mobility, good for your knees (when done correctly) and great for overall strength and force production.
