On December 14, 2022, Oakland was recognized as a continuing Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) for 2022-2026 by the LAB as one of only 36 cities nationwide to receive this distinction. The award recognizes the investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure, and pro-bicycling policies by City departments, other public agencies, Oakland bike shops, and the many community-based organizations with bicycle-themed missions.
