We’re rapidly entering a new age where hair stylists are recognizing the appeal of being a specialist versus a generalist.
What do I mean?
When you think about the services you provide behind the chair, is there something you really enjoy doing the most?
Something that you are really good at and maybe a service that you really want to dive deep into specializing in.
There’s a huge advantage to cutting down the services you provide and becoming a specialist in one or a few categories.
1️⃣ Specialists are experts in their craft and can provide a higher level of service to their clients as they invest in their education and skills
2️⃣ Specialists are generally higher paid than generalists.
3️⃣ Specialists have more flexibility to discover their dream clientele and build a schedule that accommodates a happier lifestyle.
Now that all being said, there’s nothing wrong with being a generalist either.
There are many very successful hair stylists that provide a variety of services and they enjoy the variety of work that sharpens their skills.
But if you’ve been really leaning towards a particular service like Balayage, Color Corrections, or Hair Extensions, etc. this may be the time to take action and rebrand your business.
Let us know in the comments below if you are a generalist or specialist and your thoughts! ⬇️
