Don’t fear FAT! Healthy cooking fats can be so nourishing for us. Our family uses primarily animal fats for cooking, but we also use olive & coconut oil sometimes. After sharing about seed & vegetable oils last week (and how they were in so much of the whole foods hot bar 😭), I wanted to touch on what the actually healthy alternatives are!! Fat & oils we cook with: ✔️ butter ✔️ tallow ✔️ ghee ✔️ olive oil ✔️ coconut oil Oils we avoid: ❌ canola oil ❌ vegetable oil ❌ sunflower oil ❌ safflower oil ❌ grapeseed oil ❌ soybean oil ❌ nut oils We also minimize avocado oil due to studies showing it is often mixed with other inflammatory oils. Chosen brand was one brand that came out okay in those studies. Make sure your avocado oil doesn’t smell rancid. There is also concern that olive oils on the market have been mixed with other oils. 🐄 Our family primarily uses grass fed, organic butter, tallow and ghee. Sometimes we use olive oil or coconut oil. If you can’t afford organic or grass fed, I still think animal based fats are a better option that those inflammatory oils! Aim for progress, not perfection. I think that quality cooking fats are important, as well as paying attention to ingredients. The inflammatory vegetable & seed oils seem to have infiltrated into so much. Just make good choices as you are able to... but we don’t sweat it on occasion (like when eating out etc). 🍳 What fats do you cook with?
