Breeders Mutilated Her & Worked Her Body Till It Broke.⁠ ⁠ Cocoa was still lactating from her last litter when she was surrendered to the shelter. ⁠ ⁠ She was exploited for breeding over the course of many years, leaving her in terrible condition. Her puppies were taken and sold while Cocoa was neglected and mutilated with no way out. Cocoa’s teeth have also been shaved down - a practice often used by abusive breeders to reduce the risk of her lashing out at them when subjecting her to breeding. ⁠ ⁠ Cocoa has a severe skin infection, leaving her mostly hairless. She also has damage to her eye from an unknown cause that has also led to an infection.⁠ ⁠ While we don’t know exactly why her breeder decided to surrender her to the shelter after all these years, her body gives us a clue. It is so physically worn out, depleted of so much immunity and nutrition that the breeder likely struggled to get her weak body to carry yet another litter - another common occurrence with puppy mill mamas. ⁠ ⁠ Cocoa is settling into her foster home and decompressing, but is scared and unsure, never having been loved as a companion before. She is also in a world of pain from her health issues.
