these are the 3 biggest pieces to knowing if you’re even close to being ready for retail. if you can’t confidently answer yes to all 3 of these, getting into the weeds of financing, marketing and supply chain doesn’t even make sense yet.
1) yes- you are responsible for driving sales to your brand. at the end of the day, how much money you make and how much product moves off the shelf is gonna look a lot like what you know you can do today.
2- you’re in direct competition with who occupies the shelf space around you now. customers don’t care if you still pack your own products or if you raised $5M to get that display and packaging, make sure you can compete.
3- if wrapping your head around producing 500-1000 units per product *just* for launch is more than you can handle right now, let’s pause. the smallest launches i’ve seen in target are 50 doors (250 units per product) and ulta is 300 doors (1500 units per product).
