There was once a time when photography didn’t exist. But then on this day in 1839 the French government purchased the patent of the very first photographic process, and gave it to the public. Photography is a gift to the world from France. I fondly remember my first time looking through a viewfinder, I was 7 years old and I was just mesmerised by the fact that you could frame and condense an entire world into a frame within your viewfinder. I also remember very well my excitement the very first time I developed a photograph in a dark room and the sensation I felt when the image slowly started appearing in the development stage. Photography is a gift in our lives and we should treasure the gift it is. Photos help us to remember, allow us to witness occasions where we were not present, looking at photos wakes up all our senses and evokes true emotions. I think our lives would feel quite dull if we didn’t have photos in it. Happy Photography day!
