This is a common question I explore with my clients - and think about myself.
⠀
The easiest and quickest way to recognize when you’re growing is: look for changes in behaviour and the way you think.
⠀
Some reflections to get you started:
1. Do I react the same way to old triggers? — this shows if you are engaging in emotional regulation skills to manage old wounds.
2. Am I playing out the same role as before? — this shows if you are able to recognize unhelpful patterns and if you are breaking them.
3. Are my circumstances and situations different now than before? — this shows that you are choosing differently than before.
⠀
We exist in patterns. These patterns are a result of all of our experiences and what we have learned about how to relate to others, love ourselves and others, and how to show up in our own lives.
⠀
Growth is not the end point or destination of living. It is something we are all doing all the time. It’s important to recognize and appreciate the ways you have shown growth. Thank yourself for the work you’ve put in. Be gentle about the things you’re working on.
⠀
Remember: growth is not the goal; it is the process.
