The last portrait I made of my Grandma / Yiayia, Giasemi at her home last year, before she passed away afew weeks later. The second photo is a plate of Koliva atop of her tomb the morning after she was buried. Koliva is typically used in Greek Orthodox funeral and mourning ceremonies as a symbolic food of the circle of life. The third image is of her and my grandfather Stelios in the 1950s - the hand stitched table cloth beneath that was sewn by her and is known as ‘prika’, which traditionally Greek mothers would make for their children and grandchildren as a dowry or offering upon marriage. 1927-2021 Giasemi Kourouni / Γιασεμί Κουρόυνη ❤️
