Two new works by Darin Cooper are available now; add Good Black Art to your collection by emailing [email protected]. Darin Cooper (b.2000 Newport News, Virginia) is heavily influenced by Black Southern Culture, where the Church, hip hop, family, and the legacies of American slavery are ubiquitous. In his work, Cooper presents his interpretation of the various mechanisms of spiritual release that Black people created for themselves throughout history. His practice contemplates lineage, memory, and mourning, which coincide with erasure due to slavery. Working primarily in acrylics, he achieves his signature watercolor-resembling look by using rubbing alcohol to disintegrate parts of the original pigment, creating a glaze of color across different shades. He then collages this foundation with referential prints to complete the intended image, building a mixed-media take on traditional acrylic painting. Cooper has exhibited his work in several galleries and fairs, such as Bode Projects, Grove Collective, Future Fair, Swivel Gallery, Andrea Festa Fine Art Gallery, and UTA Artist Space. He was a resident at The Macedonia Institute Residency. Cooper has recently gained representation by UTA and will have an upcoming solo show at James Fuentes in February. He is pursuing his BFA at the School Of Visual Arts, where he is expected to graduate in 2023. @inacoop, 'Grillz,' 2022 Acrylic, iron transfer, ink on muslin 40 x 36 in @inacoop, 'Like this Dove,' 2022 [SOLD] Acrylic, lithograph, glitter, synthetic grass on muslin 30 x 24 in 📸: Arturo Sanchez #GoodBlackArt #DarinCooper #ContemporaryBlackArt #AbstractPainting #AvailableNow
