schönbielhütte to hörnlihütte didn’t go quite as planned. weather was terrible and it was the hardest climb of the walk. Beautiful though, up until the 500-750m to hörnlihütte. this last part has some fairly technical exposed climbing - the hut sits on the base of the ridge of the Matterhorn and has laddered and chain protected sections that for most people aren’t a problem - but I am shit scared of heights and am terrible at climbing. and I had no protection, a heavy pack, the rock was wet from the rain and the area was cloud covered. and the fall would be at least 1000m. It was a tough call, but I decided to turn back, and in doing so started a walk that was kind of eye opening for me, and what I love about mountaineering (and what I don’t).
