So much about this makes my blood BOIL!!!! My heart aches for the passenger (@wheelie_good_life), for the disabled community and for a world that thinks this is acceptable. It’s not and never will be. This disabled passenger was told there was no aisle chair to use to get to the toilets when on a @tuiuk holiday flying with @albastar.airline and denied the use of EMPTY seats nearer the toilets, so she had to drag herself down the length of the plane. Crew’s advice? - wear a nappy next time. If there had been no accessible toilet facilities for the rest of the passengers that plane wouldn’t have taken off. They wouldn’t have been told to hold it or WEAR A NAPPY!! This is dehumanising and unacceptable behaviour from the airline. This hasn’t always been this way. Aisle chairs used to be provided on some aircraft and staff have been trained to assist passengers to use them. I myself have been on flights where the centre two toilets have a wall that collapses to make it one large toilet specifically for disabled passengers - thank YOU @british_airways So its all possible. It’s a matter of what is a priority to the airline. I would like to ask you, non disabled folk, would you prefer the airline to provide the equipment needed for disabled passengers to use the bathroom like everyone else whilst on a flight? Or instead sit next to someone who has to either pull down their pants in the seat next to you and use a catheter in public - I want to stress here, for no medical reason - or else to use a nappy, again for no medical reason, and then sit like that for the whole flight, purely for the convenience of the airline.
