“Intersectional oppression calls for an intersectional response.” —@liviarosejohnson (Livia Rose Johnson)
Livia is a change-maker pushing to highlight the truth and essence of BIPOC and LGBTQ individualism through casting, creative production and community building. She pivoted from physical protesting to an equally emotional protest: founding her creative agency, @multiimedia (Multii Media).
“I wanted a creative space for us to be validated in our passions and to unionize as ‘underdogs,’” explains Livia. “I didn’t want Black individuals to only be able to get exposure and opportunity if compromising their truth. The concept of working with each other was the only true path visible to me. I don’t want to tiptoe around the perceptions and biases that need to be changed or be digestible or safe. There are too many creatives like us — silenced and exploited. I’m pushing and celebrating the expansion of a Black maximalist mindset that there is space for everyone. And I don’t have to compromise anything I believe nor compare to anyone.
I hope to inspire personal agency and the realization that we actually can change the world we were given. I want people to look at me and be able to see the potential in themselves.”
