I didn't mean to do it! It's just, Rafael Hernandez a.k.a. @2071photo joined @gabesachs and me the other day at @lafilmcamera_, and he was talking about how the Canon Sure Shot Owl is this wondrous underappreciated point-and-shoot with a huge, lovely finder. And then there was one on the 'Bay for like fifteen bucks, so... Anyway, it turns out this is the rare Sure Shot Owl Date, sold only in Japan, which can imprint the date on your photograph, something no one wants. Also, the date counter only goes up to 2019, which should give you some idea of how long Canon expected this 1997 camera to last. So I have it, I'm gonna shoot with it, and I'm sure within hours of this post the IDOC Effect will take hold and they'll be going for $1,200 like the nearly-identical Yashica T4.
