We delivered the show to NBC yesterday and I just hit upload to YouTube. Still processing it all but I do have an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. It is fitting that tomorrow is Thanksgiving because I do have a lot to be thankful for. It was one of the most challenging projects I’ve ever worked on but how often do you get to pour all of your energy into one project for over 8 weeks. I will remember this time. I will have more to say and specific people to thank but right now I am thankful to work with so many talented friends who shot some epic footage in tough conditions. First crew to ever shoot 2 IRONMAN World Championship races back to back with 1 rest day in between races. Beautiful shots. I am grateful for the athletes that gave us their time for home visits to share their personal stories. That’s what makes it special. I am thankful for my family that gave me the time and space. Sarah is now 38 weeks pregnant and had to do most of her 3rd trimester alone. I couldn’t do this without her support. My daughter Lily got her drivers license while I was in Kona. I missed dance performances and everyday life with Lily and Lexi. I am thankful for my daughters understanding why I was not present. Time to rest and reset. Reconnect with family and myself. There’s a lot more I plan to share about the creative process of making long form content (73 min) in a short window of time (4 week edit). There is no way you can do it alone and there is no way you can create art without spending time alone in your thoughts. It’s like going into a cave not to be surrounded by darkness. But more going in to find the light. I’ve shot many interviews from beginner triathletes to world champs that say the reason they got into the sport was because they watched the NBC documentary. I can say with conviction that the entire team from shooting to editing gave it their all and I am proud of what we put together for the 2022 edition of this historical race. I hope everyone enjoys it and maybe is inspired to take on a challenge that is a little scary but will bring out the best in themselves. Find their limit. I know I did.
