I don’t believe it was chance I met Nolan Shaheed, with his building-sized personality. I, too, would make friends out of the bottoms of clouds, if my life could be so long that time and I could complete each other’s sentences. But I don’t obsess over time as a measuring stick. I would rather stand against a wall and mark off where my values and principles have grown. I believe the veins of our hearts and souls are shared deeply. Without you there is no we. I obsess over shadows. It’s the infinity of darkness where the end of me and beginning of you share the same edge. Leaning into you, and you into others, we become the largest man-made skyscrapers. It’s unclear how many of the monumental people in Nolan’s life contributed to his size. Or if he made monuments of others. Regardless, I’m reminded to say to you reading this note: I love you. Thank you for bringing meaning to each day.
