Ok, ok so this might seem really bizarre but it doesn’t feel that far off how bewildered we disabled folk feel when we are denied the basic human right of access. I will never tire of saying it - if its not alright for a non-disabled person to be FORCED to use a different entrance to everyone else, or go to a different restaurant than their friends, or not have access to a toilet like the rest THEN it’s not ok for a disabled person. Let’s make this personal - If it’s not ok for YOU to be separated from the rest of your party to go around the back, past the smelly bins, though the storage area to your seat, while everyone else gets the grand entrance and greeting, than neither is it ok, nor necessary, for disabled people. If you wouldn’t be happy being fireman lifted to your seat at the theatre in front of everyone, or up the stairs at that gorgeous restaurant that you’ve been waiting months for a table at, being tossed over the shoulder of some stranger, while the rest of your party simply walked to their seats - then understand why this is an issue for many disabled people to be carried into non-accessible places. We are not worth less than non-disabled people. Sense check yourself - would you be ok with what’s being offered to that disabled person?
