The question I received the most in the past four years, “Don’t you miss home?” Being 7808 miles away from home, I certainly do miss it, but I never felt alone. I carry home with me wherever I go. Being able to surround by beautiful souls, beautiful passions and talents — I thought I must be the luckiest person to encounter all these every time I see my friends, meeting new people while working here at Purchase. When I first got here, I thought I was not meant to be in the theatre, I do not like working with people at all. Communicating and collaborating with people seemed extremely difficult to me, since I’ve always enjoyed working/creating/being alone. “We are here to tell stories, all of us, this is what theatre is about.” Stagecraft’s professor said in freshman year, this sentence lingers in my mind for so long, and I’ll never forget it. It made me start to ponder why I chose theatre in the first place. There are so many stories in my mind that I want to share — the exact music I heard in my imagination, the fragrance I smelled in my thoughts — I want to tell stories in a way that everything can be materialize in real life, vividly, to let people actually walk into my imagination. I’m certain people who are like me thought of the same thing. Now we need to learn, learn how to work with people so we can make the magic happen together. After these years, I fell in love with working with people. Sharing thoughts, creativities, feelings, stories together are so inspiring and fascinating. I’m literally learning new things every single day from so many different people. Being able to reflect on ideas you’ve been having for years and overthrow them, embracing other perspectives is what college taught me the most. I’ve learned so very much from everyone I met, and I’ll carry you guys with me for the rest of my life. All I can say is THANK YOU. Genuinely thank you for being you and bringing this world abundance in your own way. I have infinite love to give always, I’m glad you’re a part of it, and you were there to experience all these wonderful (and horrible?) things with me, inspiring each other. I love you all, happy graduation to us:)
