Dear younger Reese,
I don’t know who told you curves were ugly but that was an ugly comment and the farthest from the truth. I don’t know who told you in order to fit within the beauty standard, your belly had to be flat. Let me remind you, you will one day hold babies in that belly. It’s okay if there is extra space. I don’t know who told you your legs had to be thin and your butt had to be big. Because when God knit you, He said, “You, my daughter, are perfect and worthy of respect, pursuit and gentleness.” I don’t know who told you brown eyes were average. Consider this: Your eyes look like a sunset when the light hits them. I don’t know who told you your ears stick out too far, your lips were too small and your nose was too pointy. That was a reflection of their own insecurities. I don’t know who told you your figure was distracting even when you were in a tasteful outfit. Your figure is not inappropriate, scandalous or mischievous. Younger Reese, I’m sorry for the generation you live in. They sometimes can say things they shouldn’t and appear cruel. But YOU — You are beautiful & you are more that what you look like. Your mind is creative. Your spirit is wise. Your heart is kind. Your determination is inspiring. Your obedience is transformative. Your eyes see strangers falling in love. Your ears hear laughter. Your nose smells seasons. Younger Reese, I wish you could have understood these things before. But one day, you will and life will appear more beautiful than ever before because comparison and insecurity won’t rob you any longer.
