LETS TALK ABOUT WHEN YOU MESS UP 🗣
I’ve been doing this babes hair since 2020 and we typically shoot for golden hand painted hair.
Unfortunately two appointments ago TRAGEDY STRUCK ⚡️
I had painted her entire head and she lifted MARVELOUSLY. Like the perfect inside of a banana and I was SO excited for our end result. When the time came to tone her, my formula was just too neutral (I mean, she really likes the gold y’all!) SO I decided to use a color in a line that I had never tried before but was labeled as a 9g. To my horror after about 5 minutes the toner appeared to me (and her) an actual level 6 😩 There go her beautiful highlights that I spent an hour painting. Does this sound familiar? Have you been in this situation before? THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to do when things don’t go as planned is to:
👉🏻 TAKE OWNERSHIP no matter which way you weigh it, it is your fault 😅 Whether you didn’t factor in porosity or remaining pigment or didn’t saturate enough etc, the client has nothing to do with why the color didn’t turn out right
👉🏻 ASK TO FIX IT it’s so important to handle these situations in a timely manner. The longer the client waits for your offer the less trust they have in you. They may see it as a disaster and if they think you don’t, they won’t have much confidence in you two being or staying on the same page as far as their hair goals are concerned
👉🏻 GET THEM IN ASAP I will come in on a day off or work til the middle of the night if I have to to correct a mistake I made. It’s the right thing to do and chances are because you’re an amazing stylist, they already waited a long time to get in with you. Cancel your plans if you must, sorry 😅
👉🏻 DELIVER!! No pressure 😂 Make sure this appointment is spent doing whatever necessary to get them to the result they were promised originally. If you need to relighten them, make sure you’re doing treatments that will help keep the integrity of their hair.
👉🏻 DONT BEAT YOURSELF UP we all have off days. You’re not a horrible stylist, you’re not stupid and you don’t need to quit your job and work at Costco
Because I took care of her, she is still my client today!
