The video of her and my nephew (@ayaandiop) continues to warm hearts and touch lives- and we are so happy that our editor Margaret Anastas (@anastasmargaret) saw the potential for this affirmation to touch so many more through our children’s book! To know that this work is the inaugural title on the Flamingo Books imprint makes this release all the more special for us. The opportunity to have Nneka Meyers (@kinopia) use her skills and talents to match visuals with the words of our story is the icing on the cake! Nneka’s use of expressive, vibrant and detailed illustrations truly brings to life the characters and their emotions and we are thrilled to have her artwork as the backdrop for our message. We want this book to show children that they have the ability to experience a challenge or a difficult situation and overcome. Our goal is that they remember reading this book and to recognize that little Ayaan told HIMSELF that he is smart, blessed, and can do anything- and THEY can do it too! Lastly, but equally as important- we hope that this book also serves as starting point for conversation between children and their caregivers (parents, educators, mentors and loved ones) on how to meet the inevitable challenges that will present themselves throughout their lives. This affirmation can serve as a start to the practice of positive self talk, and self-motivation; giving children the tools they will need to push through!
