These aren’t traditional “ab” exercises in the sense that they are not designed to isolate the abdominal muscles. In my opinion, an abdominal crunch is similar to a bicep curl, but for your stomach. Great at isolating and building a specific set of muscles, but they do not translate well in a world that requires the integration of the entire human movement system to accomplish a task. This is the twisting, bending, stabilizing, rotating, and controlling function of our core that comes into play when moving about in the real world. I still perform crunches as well, but I find these exercises have me feeling more capable and stable in my everyday life.
